Perpendicular Lines/Rays

What are perpendicular lines?

Perpendicular lines are two lines that intersect to form a right angle.

transversal
-a line that intersects two or more coplanar lines at two or more distinct points.

Parallel Lines Cut by a transversal

The angles formed by the transversal with the two other lines can be identified as follows:

Exterior angle
- an angle that forms a linear pair with one of the angles of a polygon.
  Angles 1,2,7,8 are exterior angles

Interior Angle
-  an angle formed inside the perpendicular lines cut by a transversal
   Angles 3,4,6,5 are interior angles

Corresponding Angles
- an interior angle and exterior angle that are nonadjacent and on the same side of the transversal.
   Angles 2 and 6, 1 and 5, 3 and 7, 4 and 8

Alternate Interior Angles
-a pair of nonadjacent interior angles that are on opposite sides of a transversal.
   Angles 3 and 5, 4 and 6

Alternate Exterior Angles
- a pair of nonadjacent exterior angles that are on opposite sides of a transversal.
   Angles 2 and 8, 1 and 7
